This is by no means a complete list of features that NorthStar provides, however should give a good idea of what the system can do
Tracking of IPv4 address information (IPv6 is in the works)
Database independence. NorthStar currently officially supports the PostgreSQL and MySQL database systems. Support for other databases is easily added and always welcome.
Hierchical Tracking that ties every assignment back to a specific Device, Location, and Owner
Customizable Templates for each object type
Assignments can be nested without any limit (for instance and /19 can be split into 2 /20's and so on)
User permissions systems that allows specific users to only perform specific tasks
Range creation functions that allow you to quickly create Network objects for a consecutive range of Netblocks of Addresses.
Ability to set status of a block (Allocated, Assigned, Reclaim, Blocked)
Ability to set a priority on a block that allows one block to be preferred over another when doing automatic allocations
Network Allocation Wizard that automatically picks a specific size block to be assigned
Ability to specify different 'Views' of IP space. This feature allows the same IP space to be used in more then one View (most useful if you are using RFC1918 Private Address Space in multiple locations)
Search functions that help provide a fast way to lookup specific information
Audit Logging to keep a record of what user is performing what action.
